Vision Statement Questionnaire Results
And 1st Draft Vision Statement
for the
Pacific Northwest “Burner” LLC

Background: About three thousand people from the Pacific Northwestgo to Burning Man each year, and in the past several years these “burners” of the Northwest have developed into a thriving, year-round arts community. We see an increasing level of participation in collaborative art, theme camp fundraisers, cross-group socializing, and community wide events such as SeaCompression and Critical Mass. About a year ago members of the local community discussed engaging to the next level: intentionally self-organizing to foster the spirit of Burning Man at the regional level. In response, a preliminary planning committee was developed to discuss how to create a Pacific Northwest Limited Liability Corporation (PNWLLC) for burners, modeled after the Burning Man LLC but retaining the uniquely collaborative flavor of the Pacific Northwest. Up to this point, the planning committee has conducted one town hall meeting to introduce the idea of the PNW LLC and seek out feedback. For the next town hall meeting, the planning committee is further seeking out feedback and participation in a) developing a proposed vision statement, b) defining its constituency — who is a member of the PNWLLC?, c) developing recommendations for the role of a community-elected LLC board of directors, and d) drafting an operating agreement for the LLC. To learn more about the PNWLLC, go to http://www.pnwllcthingie.org/. To learn more about Northwest burners, go to http://www.burningmanseattle.com.

What do YOU think should be the mission of the Pacific Northwest burners’ limited liability corporation (PNWLLC)?

As we proceed in developing the PNWLLC, it is important for us all to define:

  • what we believe should be the general vision and mission of the PNWLLC,
  • what specific goals we hope to see the PNWLLC accomplish, and
  • how we all might like to help the organization accomplish these goals as active participants.

As such, we developed a questionnaire to help us better understand what we all want out of the PNWLLC, and then create a guiding vision statement. An organization’s vision statement answers “why does this organization exist?”, “what will success look like?”, “If we are painting a picture of the ideal future, what will it look like, what are our expectations, aspirations, accomplishments?” A vision statement helps to orient the group’s energy and guide its actions.

We (the vision statement break out group) collated everyone’s responses, and then met to review them. Based on people’s responses and our following discussion, we developed proposed Vision and Mission Statements. See below, following the questionnaire results. The questionnaire results and proposed Vision and Mission Statements will be presented for discussion at the next town hall meeting.

Questionnaire Results

192 people responded to the questionnaire, 53.8 % male, 46.2 % female. The average age was 34.5, and participants had been to Burning Man average of 3.6 years. We recruited people to complete the questionnaire primarily via email through the bcwa and seattle-announce mailing lists, and by asking contacts for various groups to forward to their lists.

Most of people who responded consider themselves artists of some form or another, and were involved in a theme camp. Please see comments, Q5 and Q9 for specific responses. All of them had been to Buring Man at least once, and most intend to go again next year.

We found that people seemed to most value the strong community aspect of local burning Man activities. See below. Most people who responded with “other” did so to indicate they preferred both the community AND the art.

The majority of the people (70%) were at least somewhat involved in local, year round Burning Man community.

When asked to evaluate various potential visions and goals for the PNWLLC, people tended to most highly rate those items that related to strengthening the alternative, burner-based community. On a scale of 1 to 7, where 1 = least important and 7 = most important.

After rating the importance of each item, people then went back and indicated which item they found most important.

We asked people to provide any further comments about potential visions and goals. See comments Q13 for specific responses. Again we noted in our discussion the emphasis people were placing on community development. A lot of comments mention developing a communal space.

Once people reviewed potential visions and missions, they then rated a series of potential specific activities the PNWLLC could perform to help it achieve its goals. People rated organizing regional events as most important, then organizing workshops and exhibits.

After rating the importance of each activity, people then went back and indicated which item they found most important.

We asked people to provide any further comments about potential activities. See comments Q16 for specific responses. Again we noted in our discussion the emphasis people were placing on community development. A lot of comments mention developing a communal space.

We asked people to indicate how they would like to participate. A lot of people were interested in organizing and participating in workshops and events. See comments Q17. We get the sense that people are very interested in learning from each other, collaborating around projects and events, and sharing resources. The hope seems to be that the PNWLLC will help them to do so.

Other, final open-ended comments may be found in comments Q18.

In response to the questionnaire results, we drafted the following proposed vision and mission statement for the PNWLLC.

FIRST DRAFT VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE PNWLLC

Vision Statement

It is safe and inclusive, well-planned, built & run, and offers equality of opportunity and good services for all.

Q9 xanadu Q9 xanadu Q13 Q13) What other goals would you
like to see the PNWLLC adopt? How important are these goals,
relative to the others above? Q13 to consolidate a voice as the community in order to more efficently speak with other entitys outside of the community.
and with an approved governing body we could know where to ask for, well, anything knowing the community is behind that bodys voice and not have to waste time soliciting from the whole fucking seattle area bm peoples, one stop queries.
and wouldn’t it be nice to assume a solidarity such that larger more meneacing objectives, e.g. the world falling into anarchy, would be more managable with a practiced small scale orginized government capable of quick communication, desision and delegation? you know what i mean. right? Q13 ? Q13 1)establish a community shop
with access to all…oops, i see it below, but not as a goal

2) Educate and lead by example: ethical and sustainable (operationally and
environmentally) approaches to organization, art and bman itself

Q13 Fiscal Solvency 2.) Board and Statement Development 3.) Community
Transparency 4.) Project Goal Consensus 5.) End of Year Review and Statement Q13 A land bace that could support
events of 1,000 - 10,000 attendee’s

IE water Sewer facilities

Q13 A large physical space, IT could
be utilized by the whole community for meetings, doing art, a place to do
fire and possibly include a coffee shop Q13 a series of local funding
sources. Some organizations are really good at self-funding, some are less
effective, and individuals often have no funding whatsoever for very good
art. Q13 Act as a medium through which
Burners could isolate themselves from legal risks associated with various
project: e.g. art, performance, events.

This goal is rated a 6 in relation to the above mentioned goals.

Q13 Adding
the warning that sexual or violence acts or incidents can occur at Burning
Man on the brochure and web site. Q13 Adopt
all walks of life. I see too often
among BM collectives, a like mindedness and nonacceptance of others that are
“different”. Q13 Begin planning for our exodus
after the end of the oil age Q13 Being a resource for burners to
find assistance, e.g. rides, for those who don’t drive, stories, survival
advice. Q13 Buy land or buildings in the
city for a community center where we can teach classes, hold workshops, and
stage events. Q13 Buy land together to do farming!
Support CSA - community supported agriculture. Work with orgs like
balleseattle.org to make local economies real! Bring the self reliance aspect
of burning man to the real world - we can have a gift economy because we all
work really hard to create what we create - you can’t have a gift economy in
a population of narcatized TV watchers who make no art and contribute nothing
to the community. More biodeisel! More sustainability! I can help with the
health care part…let’s put a dent in the man. Let’s take over city council
in 2007. Q13 By example, instill a greater
sense of cooperation, honor, integrigy, responibility, and trust. The one thing the community seems to lack,
from my perspective, it the broader vision of cooperation within the community. Too many folks are self-interested and
self-motivated with little vision of the greater good. The LLC should lead by example in this
area stressing a sense of fairness to ALL not just those with the loudest
voices or the greatest self-percieved sense of power. Q13 Continue supporting creative
events Q13 Create “spaces” for
these things to happen - 6 Q13 Design a survey that has no null
answer choices Q13 Develop an organizational
structure that is free (as much as possible) of internal politics, cliquish
behavior, and group or personal self-promotion for the sake of empire
building. Q13 don’t know. Q13 Don’t you mean critical mass_IVE_ not critical mass (the bike
event) Q13 Education and experimentation in
radical sustainability and regional self-sufficiency. Teaching and learning about how the people
of this region can support themselves through sustainable practices. Q13 environment,
self-sustainability Q13 Foster the BM ideal of radical
self-reliance (as it translates to the default world, sustainability) in the
community at large Q13 Goal J seems incredibly
attractive to me. It is important
that we help those who enrich our communities through artistic means enrich
their own lives as well. Especially
since city and goverment funding is primarily nonexistant. Artists make better art when they are not
hungry! Q13 Help promote Art as community
value by generating opportunities for people to participate in and support
the creation of Art. Move beyond the temporary installations and establish
enduring Art in the local community that helps to both build community and
support the Arts. Q13 helping burners get to konw each
other, trust each other. Q13 I believe that in order to best
achieve a collaborative effort, the collaborators must all be working towards
a common effort. One way to achieve
that is to be as varied as possible in the scope of your services and
mission. In otherwords, provide
resources for EACH member of the community to not only help with a collective
project, but to also be able to envision and bring to fruition a project of
their own leading, either solo or with othe rmembers of the community.

This helps the organization remain flexible and generous without being stuck
to a specific “mission” or “goal” that might not agree with the entire
constituency of collaborators…you dig?

I guess it’s a type of organizational structure, rather than a goal, per
se. I spent eight years with a
collaboratively based theater company, and witnessed alot of tension within
problems just like these: trying to determine what the organization should do
and who’s art would come first. Being
a resource-oriented organization allows for similarly minded people to work
towards the same ends using different means, or different ends using the same
means, or the converse.

Sorry to ramble, but it’s a subject I care alot about. I’d love to share some of this info with
y’all more in depth if you’d care for more in depth imput.

Thanks for asking,

bradley mcdevitt

Q13 I can’t think of anything you
guys haven’t covered above already. Q13 i don’t think any of the goals
listed above can happen in and effective and lasting way unless goal d: to
make the PNW community stronger and more active happens first. Q13 I think it’s all been said. Q13 I think providing a framework
for artists and other community-builders to find each other and share ideas,
resources, etc. is a first step towards all of the other goals.
I also think it’s happening organically,
but could probably use some steering at this point. Parties are great, but
what ELSE do people want to be working on?
It would be exciting to see more BM-like gifts in PNW at large.

Q13 I
would like to see the goal be more on the giving side (from us to other
communities), than on the consuming side (geting money to fund out own
personal ideas and plans). Q13 I would love to see the pnwllc
help move vancouver along in getting to where seattle is in its community. I
know that our community here is expanding, but we need help.

Q13 I…I think that taking care of
the people who care and contribute to all of the Burning Man efforts, should
be a priority. If the people’s needs for things, like Health Insurance, are
made available for the members, the overall participation becomes real. I
resent the accusation that all we do for ourselves and others is Party.

Q13 I’d like to see the group
organize retreats and learning opportunities of an extremely diverse nature.
Big parties, small workshops, beach barbeques.
Keep the concept original. Q13 I’d like to see a place that
helps the people in the community to have personal growth. COmmunity outreach
to the schools in the area would be nice. I’d like to see more involvement
for teens and non drinking events. Like picnics and kite flying :)

We live in this area and yet doing anything that is outside of the party
scene is hard to have enough of a turn out that is it worth doing it.

If we had a building that we could have:

workshops/art spaces (reasonable rental)

some storage for large theme camps (money coming in)

a cafe that is open late or 24/7 and serves no hard liquor could be staffed
by burners

Get a wherehouse and convert it into
storage/cafe/art spaces/classrooms and apartments/hostel.

That is what I suggest.

Q13 In the interests of the
environment and efficient use of resources we could look at a freecycle/swap
meet type activity for sharing/recycling playa gak and art supplies. Q13 It seems you have it covered, at
least as far as my 30 seconds of thought can see. Q13 It’s a combination of several of
the goals outlined above: ultimately *sustaining* our ongoing creative
expression as a community. I honestly think that what we do, using art as an
overt social experiment, is the most important movement in contemporary fine
art. The world doesn’t realize it now, and I don’t care if they ever realize
it. (Nevertheless, we should all apply for art fellowships in Europe…) We
are inventing the cutting edge of modern art, and as long as we take care of
each other like a family, we’re going to be alright. Q13 kid all the kool kids out Q13 less bueracracy - do we really
need and LLC to do this?

less inclusivity about the Burning Man. More involvement with local
government, ie run a city council candidate

Q13 Local community moop patrol!! Q13 Local events need to have higher
quality art. Women need to feel
comfortable instead of being barraged by disrespectful horndogs disguised as
burner community.

Q13 Look, all the art and love are
great and good, but we are engaged in an unjust war and the burner
“community” is completely irellevant’ or worse,
if its primary goal is basically to just
have a good time. Get it? Q13 monthly art events/parties

a regional festival

legislative initiatives

Q13 more emphasis on the art vs just
partying :), we all love booze and fun fun but seattle needs more of the art
in its year round events…like sea compression… Q13 More regional burn events (not
just in or around Seattle)

Q13 My
only comment is regarding :

“(e) Encourage Burning Man styles of art.”
yes”> I see little reason to limit things to
“Burning Man styles of art.”

Q13 No others. Q13 none Q13 none Q13 Out reach to the technology
deprived (I couldn’t believe how many people had never ever HEARD of
sea-compression - ect!) Q13 performance space, shop space,
hostel space for roving burners, maybe gardening space as time goes on Q13 Personally, I’d like to see
folks realize that there are kids who are part of this community. Q13 physical space, more in 16) it’s
one long answer to both questions

Q13 PNW regional burn is very
important… like Toast, Bitf, and other regional burns, it is the main thing
that brings the local burner community together.
SeaCompression and Critical Mass:ive should be high on the list. Q13 Promote
local burn events, open, advertised to, and WELCOMING of the General
Public. Visible force at events like
Folklike festival, arts festivals, etc to change the public concept that it’s
a dirtyhippiedrugfuckfestshowmeyourtits.
I think with understanding comes the ability to become a stronger
presence in our local community, not just to burners, but to everyone else
who lives here. Q13 Reaching out to Burners of ALL
ages, including those under 21! Q13 responsibility Q13 Responsible and open
accounting. Extremely important. Q13 Seek/encourage/educate/share
sustainble ways of living on this planet in community. Q13 Subsidize/sponsor:

-BM Camps

-BM Arts

-Political Action

-Interactive festivities

Q13 Sustainable business/endeavour
to help employ, fund and further the community (drink) Q13 that fat boys gat lovin too Q13 The ability to have community
property. Very. Q13 The above list is pretty
complete. Q13 The first goal is to find a
reason to exist. I still say the PNWLLC is the cart before the horse. Who
ever heard of forming an LLC THEN trying to figure out what its for? Q13 The simplest possible
“government” that can get the job done. Q13 Think you got it covered. Q13 To buy a
small tropical island for us all to decomress on.

Q13 To effect change in the default
world through the exercise of communal effort; i.e. voting with our wallets,
endorsing/condeming civic decisions, getting burners elected to school
boards. Q13 Um… adopt a puppy.
Name it Blaze? Q16 16) What other activities
would you like to see the PNWLLC perform? How important are these activities,
relative to the others above? Q16 “n” above. A place for
Burners and others to gather in a pleasant “Center Camp” like
space. Q16 ?

Q16 A web site to link up with camps
and other burners so that we can all get involved to the level we want (which
for me is “more than I am now”).
This might already exist, I’m also lazy at times. Q16 Again, you guys have covered a
lot of ground here. Can we do ALL these things? Q16 an art studio co-op Q16 Anythig directly relevant to our
current geopolitical context. Anything at all. Q16 Art car parade

Public impromtu street performance

Q16 Assist in providing year round
venues and oportunities for the BM comunity to come together and for artists
to display and perform their art.

Q16 Be a resource of
ideas/projects/businesses etc that share the same values as burners do.
I believe that building community and
sharing in community is the most important thing burners can do the
other 51 weeks of the year. Q16 be the funding backup for
parties events and shows, and the legal foot to hire the venue, etc Q16 Burn! Q16 Choice M is the closest thing to
a practical application of the LLC I’ve heard suggested. The rest is just a
new way to look at welfare for artists. Q16 community adoption projects like
cityrepair, random acts of generosity

VERY important for day use gathering, all ages, appropriate. Internet access
, both wireless and stations to use in the place

Q16 Creat RainingMan the water-based
version of Burningman with water effects and art.
yes”> Seriously. Q16 Create a network of
jobshare/barter/gift services for the larger community to use.
In general I feel the biggest gift Burning
Man has to offer is that of the service of gifting.
Whatever it may be, material, emotional, conversational, it
fosters more committment to function and service. That means more gets done
and people are generally happier.
That, to quote the Dali Lama, can only be good. Q16 Develop a ‘lending library’ of
equipment for artists - such as a PA system, lighting, or a 3 ton metal
press. Q16 Direct
art grants = low overhead. I don’t
know enough about the wage and insurance items to be able to rate them
successfully. They are important
issues — but I don’t know how pervasive the need is, or, what PNWLLC could
do to help meet those needs. Could
you educate the community about these topics so we could help you make better
decisions/choices? Q16 Educate for sustainable
practices

Q16 Engage the community to help
nurture Burner values in the Northwest where we live. Grow beyond Burningman
while maintaining the roots and essential spirit of the event. Bring the
playa off-playa Q16 F- If we had a space to work
together, throw parties in, have workshops there meet, and perform in, WOW!

Q16 Handle cash for forest
reclamation projects, wherein we purchase, replant, and party in, woods for
the next thirty years. Each tribe = one forest. A new kind of network for a
post-apocalyptic society. Q16 I feel the PNWLLC’s biggest
opportunity is to light a fire under people’s ass to commit to collaborative
projects and use our collective power and abilities to scale up what we are
capable of acheiving. Artistically,
politically, socially. I think sharing tools, workspace, and knowledge will
get us there. You can’t tell people what to care about, but you can point
them towards a group of 20 others who are passionate about the same
thing.

I know I said that we shouldn’t focus on money, but I think one service
would could work on is helping artists learn more about how to manage thier
work/money issues to be able to focus more on their art. Some of that could
be grant-writing education, career counselling specifically for burners, info
on small business loans and how to erase credit debt, etc. I don’t know
exactly what everyone needs, but that would be a good balance to workshops
like Welding, Fire-spinning, Building a Viable Structure, Proper use of Power
Tools, etc.

Q16 I find the ideas of promoting
the gift economy concept to the general public and reaching out to the
general non-burner public with workshops absolutely repulsive. Q16 I love the idea of opt in
insurance that would be amazing! Q16 I really like the idea of Vera
Project in Seattle. Providing
classes, silk screening, music. Involving people of all ages with good
programming, but not too large

Q16 I think it’s more important to
foster a burning man community and help develop and strengthen the community
to do it’s own activities than to provide the space for it to happen. I’m all
about keeping it simple and straighforward and not getting too complex. Q16 I think that what we could do
best is really take back our local economy and local politics - we are
survivors and organizers. We have charisma and personal power. We can show
others in the community how to be vibrant and alive by turning off the TV,
being with amazing friends, making art - building community throguh art
projects. We can show people how to take back their world from the hands of
the deadening and mind-numbing corporations. We can eventually organize
enough mass and secede with Western Oregon, Northern CA and Vancouver BC -
the united state of burner! OK, so that’s a ways out; something to shoot for!
Don’t worry about an online directory - we use tribe.net for that. Q16 I think you have it covered

Q16 I would liek to see organization
of random ‘gift economy’ events in the local area - my favorite idea is to
target a neighborhood for a “litter-pick-up/scavenger hunt”. Little
events that exhibit BM ideas and engage the community while providing a
valuable service. This would be more important to me than any other item
listed above. Q16 I would like to see a community
based economic model that would incompace health care, child care,
primary(home school resorces)and secondary education (high school
equivelency, and college ), job training/placement, self defence, and
housing. With as many services as possable provided within the community it’s
self. Q16 I’d like to go to local
activities, but think the art is lame.
Also, as a

woman I feel nervous about having my picture taken in “burner”
clothes (or naked) and being put online.
Once I saw naked pics online of people from Seacompression I decided I
would never attend. It’s one thing to
be comfy, another to be exploited by so-called fellow community members!!

Q16 I’d like to see a market place
for Burners who sell their art. Not
just an exhibition but an ongoing market. Whether it’s jewelry, sculptures,
paintings, clothing, fire tools, as long as it’s something they create.
I’d like to support and encourage that so
we buy products from other Burners and help support our community.
This market place
could be virtual, or physical.
A once a month bring your whares or a
website they could display it in. Q16 I’d like to see our community
develop a physical community center supported by membership and usage
fees
studio/work/rehearsal space for art and performance, spaces for short and
long use contracts for groups pulling a one time playa experiment, and for
living groups requiring space throughout the year

building workshop spaces (e.g. wood shop, metal shop)
classes and workshops for our community, and the community we live in
large project
storage
spaces for short and long use contracts for groups pulling a one time playa
experiment, and living groups requiring space throughout the year

theater, amphitheater, gallery, sculpture garden
on a large lot, with a fence for outdoor building, testing and performance Q16 I’d like to see the PNWLLC
perform a handstand. While wearing a
kilt. Q16 Just a note:
Some items above I said “not
important” to not because I think they are not important, but because
they already happening aside from the LLC. Q16 just have a place where people
can communicate their plans for parties and ideas Q16 kick all the kool kids out Q16 Let a space that artists and
performers can use to perform-display their work, for proffit. This allows
artists to reinvest and create better work. Q16 Maybe I’ve been living on a low
budget for too long, but it seems like we should proceed very, very
cautiously about things like medical insurance and salaries, with very
detailed advice from experienced people. You probably already know
this.
Anyway, I like the idea of the PNWLLC providing a support
network for all the independent art projects around the area, for people to
make connections and learn how to make their ideas happen. However, I also
think the PNWLLC can have a profound influence on experimenting with a new
and distinct art movement. Perhaps there should be annual
“curators” of the LLC who mainly spark inspiration among other
artists, and help support their efforts. Q16 More
activities that those under 21 can participate in. More family-oriented
activities, and stuff for kids and teens. Q16 more local community outreach,
no Burning Man “ghetto” Q16 No suggestions. Q16 only through regional gatherings
can we get to know one another better and generate ideas that stick for
further growth and development. at these regional events, there should be
events/ camps that are designed to organize folks for building/ organzing some
of these other goals–like creating/ purchasing a performance/ exhibition
space for burner artists. Q16 Organize more kid-friendly
events. Very important (to us) Q16 performance art, flash mobs,
intentional living, random acts of kindness, etc. it is very important to
show others alternate life forms. Q16 perhaps a purchasing collective
for buying food/art supplies/insurance/whatever at better rates Q16 potlucks, movies.
social activities.
teach teenagers collaboration.
get grants. Q16 Provide
assistance to those on need in our community. Q16 rebar is not your friend!
class Q16 see #13 above -
odd numbers people, force chioces

Q16 Seek out, promote, and support
groups/events/organizations/etc that share Burning Man ideals of radical self
expression, radical self-reliance, and/or gifting.
Build a stronger extended community that shares these ideals. Q16 set up a mentoring network where
those with the time to take on mentoring someone in a specific field or in
general burn know-how can share their knowledge. more one-on-one than a
workshop, more like an apprentice model. grow skills within the community (like
a tribe/village). Having resources like this is really important, especially
as a way to reach out to younger members of the community. Q16 simply
acting as a community center in that there is a space, either physical or
virtual, to post and communicate with with a group at large where it is
anticipated one could canvas, solicite, or otherwise find persons interestred
in your same activitys.

it just seems that if there is such
dedication and involment within a community it would behove that group to
work together in an orginized fashion so that every individual can contribute
their personal best parts without needing to work through their personal weak
point to acheive anything. how many
awesome projects fail or never even get started because sombody didn’t want
to write up a proposal or didn’t know how to buget adequetly?
with such a varied resouose as this local
bm community, so many possible combinations of of people and thier
skills…… whatever, this questionare would be a weak point for what i have
to offer.

Q16 That’s a pretty good list. Q16 The above was very hard to
choose from. So many of those seem
important and what a local PNWLLC should do. Q16 There are a lot of things that I
think would be cool but they are not imho within the scope of the pnwllc. Q16 What more can be said,
GEESSSHHH!!!

Q16 work exchange type stuff to help
subsudize event tickets. — maybe
some fundraising to give scholarship/reduced tickets to those who can prove
extreme finacial/emotional need and contribution to the burn community/ideals Q16 Year one needs to be focus on a
limited number of Events. It would be good to represent the local LLC at BM
in 05 with some thing physical. Q16 You covered it all Q17 How might you like to be
involved? What specifically would you
like to do, and what are you good at doing that might be a valuable skill to
offer? Q17 1 Teach workshop on photography.
2 be an “official photographer” for
parties, fundraisers, etc. Q17 Ahhhhhh, I could write a
novel. I do all of the above, and
will continue to do so. Q17 Although I’m taking a year off
from the playa this year, I’ll continue organizing bi-monthly costume parties
that are attended by numerous burners, and try to promote them to the PNW
burner community as an opportunity for community building and radical self-expression.
I’ll also support local events like WASH,
which brings a Burning Man-esque event to our own state each year.
I’d offer my own time for any data analysis work that needs to be done — my
professional expertise. Advanced
Excel & Access, and basic SQL, primarily.
I’d also love to attend any workshops offered covering stilt-walking, any
costuming topics, and topics related to building structure to live out on the
playa (shade structures, evaporation pools, showers, cooking, etc.). Q17 attend a workshop

I have done toys at Mutant Toys

Q17 attend workshops, events, help
with bookkeeping Q17 attend workshops, present my
experiences at a How To BM workshop

Q17 attend workshops, visit mixers,
read email updates, offer services
when appropriate. Since I am a web
designer, I might be able to help with some of the internet site functions. Q17 attending interesting
workshops
maybe teaching
maybe publicity
organizing that can be done from home Q17 be at places where people are
building things. I want to build a viking long boat to sail around the ether
with. now how to do I find other people who want to help? Q17 Be more involved with local
burner activites. Participate. Q17 Burn! Q17 depending
on other time commitments that I have. I would like to paticpate by possibily
organizing workshops, taking notes at meetings, project management. Currently
I’m finishing my MBA in sustainable business and planning a camp..
Sustainabilaville for burning man (our first camp) But keeping the community
and values of the BM community alive at home is really important to me. Q17 design promo materials Q17 event management/assistant,
production assistant or general other volunteer help Q17 everfy time I try to get
involved I’m apparently not cool enough so screw it. Q17 for most events, would be on the
attendee side. I wouldn’t want regularly active role in the org Q17 for now, i will say i can attend
events and try to fill in any holes as my abilities suggest and time permits Q17 go and/or help organize Q17 go to a workshop
organize a workshop
go to a regional event
help organize an event

Q17 go to a workshop, teach at a
workshop, or organize a workshop, go to regional events, or help organize an
event, help out with the organization’s infrastructure EDUCATE FOR SUSTAINABLE
PRACTICES Q17 good at organizing
fundraisers. could do a workshop on
how to do collaboration, or how to do a theme camp. Q17 help organize events, esp.
gallery, can provide gallery space.

Q17 I
am a bartender who loves the last shift.
I think that is my strong point. When working with SV a couple years
ago, I was always on the last shift and loved it and was able to close down a
bar and maximize the cleaning before joining the party. Q17 I am a great organizer, planner,
and worker- timely and very responsible.
I am involved heavily in 2 other festivals through the Summer,
however, so I couldn’t have a large involvement.
But I would be interested in helping with planning of certain
events- such as seacompression, or other related burn events.
I am also a fire performer, and am
artistic director of my own fire troop, so we could perform at any of these
events. I would also like to
collaborate with BM in my own festival- a non-profit festival we started last
year, called The Wash Festival, if there was interest in this from the BM
community. Q17 I am good at business,
especially handling finances, making big decisions, organizing people,
delegating, giving direction and vision, and I am writing a community housing
grant right now. We are all involved with so many communities each (I am
seriously involved in at least 25 communities, glancingly involved in many
more) that we have the power and the reach to draw from the larger community.
We can get the resources we need if we have focus and direction. We need to
have enough discussion to decide what we really want, then do it. I’d like to
take over the political system in Seattle and make Seattle an example to the
rest of the country of what a seriously committed group of amazing
individuals can do when they cooperate to make a goal happen. I am good at
being in the trenches, and I am a good voice and executive. Organizing
subject-matter task forces; videography; fundraising; grant writing are some
of the skills I offer. I have many more. Just don’t make me take notes! Q17 I
am now in Mexico, though very connected to Seattle burning man folks. So I
cant’ do much now for folks there. Q17 I can organize and guide a
discussion of what specific steps an arts community can take to work,
struggle and strive for global justice and peace. Q17 I can teach sewing/costuming. Q17 I could attend and facilitate
workshops for sculpting, life casting, EL and LED lighting, etc. Q17 I could teach a lifecasting
workshop. Nothing consistent because
we live in Mukilteo, and have 2 kids. Q17 I could write articles for your
newsletter. Q17 I could write for a
newsletter. I could work on
production levels of events. Q17 I have computer skills and
building skills. I do not yet know
what might be useful to you yet, but I will try to get more involved. Q17 I have lost interest in the nw
burningman community, find it stagnant and would not choose to get involved
with the PNWLLC. Q17 i have tools, can build things,
write copy, run/work in a bar/coffeeshop Q17 I hope to go to critical
mass, but I would be interested in
other similar events. i would be willing to volunteer my skills as a
carpenter, designer, inventor Q17 I like to attend workshops on
fire performing. Work with ideas for future social gatherings. I can help
with bars. Q17 I like to organize events. I
will help with celebrations, but I’d like to work on more focused events that
are somewhat challenging to people’s normal frame of reference, but still
interesting and inviting. Large scale, interactive pieces. I would also like
to help organize educational programs for both Burners and non-burners. Sort
of a rotating program with different instructors and locations depending on
subject. Would like to work on newsletter and other communications.

Q17 I
live in Spokane and it seems the HUB of BM activities is in the Seattle area,
I have a 8 to 5 job so my participation would be limited unless you brought
some activities to the Spokane area. I would participate in any way I could,
I’m good at organizing, bookeeping, note taking, group planning etc. Q17 I love planning events and
bringing people together. Q17 I may not be what most people
call an artist but I do have skills that I would like to pass on

Q17 I might attend workshops - el
wire and sequencing of same would be interesting…
If task forces were required, I might be able to help out with organization
or meeting minutes, etc… Q17 I wanna spitshine Matt Conlon’s
shoes. Q17 I would attend a wide variety of
workshops and maybe go to some fundraising events. Q17 I
would be interested in going to workshops as well as regional events.
I have many connections to the film and
theatre world, as well as having skills in both of those areas.
I’d be interested in helping run artistic
events (live performances, gallery openings, etc).
I really love the idea of the LLC having a physical space to
call home and would definitely be into helping make that happen (ie help find
/ remodel / paint the space or help it run once it was found)… Q17 I would be interested in helping
establish the mission of this organization and determing how to best
implement said mission. I know there is a good deal of discussion around
creating the org, but it needs a much clearer sense of purpose as to why it
ought to exist so that it can create a measure of accountability for itself
once it actually achieves an implementation phase. This is big, new,
important, and likely to be time-consuming and expensive. Cost in terms of
both dollars and hours need to controlled and effectively distributed if this
is also to become sustainable and enduring.

Q17 I would be most interested in
workshops (we live out here in the sticks..!!) and would be interested in
helping to organize some local (in my area) events (Port Townsend / Olympic
Peninsula). I would be happy to share
my skills in working with ultralite lashed wood and fabric forms (I build
skin on frame kayaks). Q17 I would certainly attend
workshops that interest me, and utilize network resources.
I would attend and perform at regional
events and possibly assist with event planning.
I would organize a poi workshop.
I would write and edit newsletters and correspondence and
possibly help with administrative duties.
When you have a community space I’ll volunteer to help staff and
maintain it. Q17 I would like to 1. go to
workshops and teach workshops and organize workshops on the things I know
something about (running a small business as an artist: book keeping,
marketing, etc. for example); 2. attend regional events and participate in
the event; 3. contribute to the infrastructure; 4. help conceptualize an
event or decorations for an event and lead a group in creating the
decorations, etc. Q17 I would like to attend more art
workshops to learn how to create costumes on my own. Q17 I would like to connect with
other artists and work on collabortive pieces/projects Q17 I would like to go to a workshop
on building/welding/contructing etc. Q17 I would like to go to regional
events and be happy and spread my sunshine to everyone I meet. Q17 I
would like to help with even planning– critical mass, perhaps.
I’d also like to participate in art
projects, planning, etc. etc. Right
now we’re pretty busy time-commitment wise, but I think when things slow
down, I would like to again become more active.
Skills? SHmills!!
I can cook, make movies, and am pretty
good at planning and executing. And I
am good at taking orders (ask Jen*). Q17 I would like to volunteer at
events. Q17 I
would like to volunteer to help organize (I couldn’t feasabliy head much at
this point) — I have strong comupter/multi tasking organizational/networking
skills (stage management degree) –
also I would love so do some costuming
workshops (I can make some pretty cool shit with only the aid of a referance
book) AND I would totally be willing to do some grunt work here and there,
for “the cause.” — also,
to a lesser extent I can get a sizable amount of free copies from time to
time (like a couple thousand once or twice a month) Q17 I would teach poi, fire safety,
etc. I would also be willing to do
some graphic design work. Q17 I’d go to and teach workshops.
Probably music-related, although I have some craft skills. Q17 I’d go to some regional
events. I’m sort of burned out on
Burning Man, to be honest! — but would encourage those who are interested to
keep the faith. Q17 I’d like to be the voice of
reality and fiscal attainability, but in a roomful of dreamers, hippies and
artists I realize there is no place for reality. Q17 I’d
like to conduct the series of classes and workshops my group already
offers/teaches in a permanent space Q17 I’d like to go to workshops and
maybe teach more stilting workshops or maybe help organize a simple costume
sewing workshop, e.g. Q17 I’d like to help a local artist
create a fantastic work to be installed at Burning Man. Q17 I’d like to organize events and
people. Teach, take workshops, travel
- all of it! Except taking
notes. I don’t want to do that…

Q17 I’d like to teach workshops on
theme camp organizing, sculpture design, and DJ beat matching. I’d also like
to try to design an art piece that can be a “flagship” for what the
LLC is trying to cultivate. Q17 I’d love to attend and help
organize workshops on costuming, how to be comfortable at BM, as well as help
organize larger scale events such as SeaCompression and CM.
I can also help with some light
bookkeeping for the organization. Q17 I’d
love to teach any number of things: rigging, aerial work, clowning, theater,
acrobalancing, mask making/performance…
I’d love to provide help in an infrastructure capacity, perhaps sit on a
board, or help generate ideas for fundrasing, etc. Q17 i’d
love to teach workshops or be a mentor as time permits. I really enjoy
working on the operations teams of regional and smaller events, and i’d love
more opportunity to learn skills from other artists in the community. Q17 if a workshop forms that
interests me, i would attend. and i’ve been known to help any time when
asked. (i.e. helping with events)and likely will continue to spontaniously
help in the future Q17 ijust
want to hang out with people while working on pojects.
so all i really want to provide is my
assistence on getting things done.
i’m best at building things. Q17 I’ll do kid/teen/youth stuff! Q17 I’ll get back to you on that. Q17 I’ll help out and Ranger when I
can Q17 I’ll help with music related
things. Q17 I’m almost always at events with
a medical bag and a camera bag. Q17 I’m always down for regional
events. I’m good at partying,
right? Yes I would help however I
could to put that together. Again,
laziness prevails perhaps.. Q17 I’m an administrator at heart,
I’m rather good with paperwork BUT I have a very demanding job. I can only
participate at the Theme camp level until at least after BM of this year.
After that, My job may change and I’d have to evaluate how much participation
I could do then.
I wanted to start my own non-profit under the name of “gift
economy” before the whole PNW thingy got started… so you can bet that
I would be willing to participate heavily in most capacities if my
circumstances allowed for it. I’m mostly interesteed in doing things that
benefit the local (seattle/pnw) community though, not just the burner
community. Q17 I’m an organizer from hell,
great with numbers, learns fast. Hell I just like to help out; we’ll see if my
assistance will be needed. If not see ya on the playa.!! Q17 I’m completely burned out right
now. I’ve put a *lot* into burning
man over the last five years and I need a break.
I’m interested in getting involved but not till next year. Q17 I’m good at concepts, gathering
people, spreading the word- PR, event planning, infrastructure,
committees/task forces. I also make a mean cuppa joe. Q17 I’m intrigued with the
newsletter idea. I have a background in graphic design and would like to be
involved with that project. Also, my boyfriend is starting his own business
soon—an alternative bookshop and art gallery—and he is keen to run a
Burner-friendly establishment. It’s still in the planning stages at this
point but I’m sure we could be useful in that capacity as well. Q17 I’m kinda shy and intimidated by
the Seattle community which seems very tight-knit and difficult to penetrate
unless one is an extroverted “party person”, so I’d like a kind of
“orientation” where us shy Burners hiding in the woodworks can meet
the “core” group and others around us. I’d LOVE to attend art
workshops and “how-to-burn” workshops. I’d like to attend regional
events, and support the organization of such in whatever way possible. I’m an
amateur artist, with delusions that I’m an illustrator with great drawing
skills, and skills in InDesign/Photoshop, prepress, marketing, type 75+ wpm,
strong administrative skills. I would like to participate in activities
geared towards kids…art, facepainting, etc. Q17 I’m mostly just interested in
attending events right now.

Q17 I’m not much into organizing
effots these days (trying to take more tim for myself) but I could teach fire
workshops to kids, volunteer (esp. at above-referenced day-use space) my time
in other ways, & can/am willing to assist with bookkeeping, etc. (like
helping with scheduling of spaces provided my the LLC). Q17 I’m not sure yet
but want to be involved somehow. Q17 i’m open to suggestion.

Q17 I’m
very interested in helping out with the LLC - Workshops and classes, event
planning & organization or possibly writing for a publiation are all
things I might do to “help out.” I would definitely want to take
advantage of an industrial shop space, and would be happy to dedicate myself
to making such a resource a part of our community. Q17 infrastructure–data stuff Q17 keep the electricty running. Q17 Living
in vancouver makes it difficult for me to be involved in an
organizing/planning/meetings kind of way, but I would definitely make an
effort to attend events and volunteer to help on the day. Q17 maybe, a little teaching, maybe
photography, or electronics, or gadgetry… not sure if im a very good
teacher though,.. could certainly help out as a web master for somthing.

Q17 My
partner and I do the Black Rock Gazette (on the Playa). We are also currently
doing the Black Top Gazette for the BMan Org. If you need print production
assistance creating a monthly or quarterly newsletter, let us know. Q17 My strengths are definitely in
the workshop, artist assistance with nerdly issues, and engineering
areas. Lead a workshop on a tech
topic? Q17 need DPW, Ranger or EMS for a
regional burn? Q17 Network together to build
support for local events.

Q17 next fall, I am hoping to open a
day use space which would fulfill the community cafe/internet/movie
studio/kid play space/mama work out space/Burner(activist) urban hostel Q17 Not
likely to have time to get involved. My ideal activity, however: find
interested actors/dramatists to organize some sort of performance at Burning
Man. Q17 Not precisely sure. My
professional background is Technical / ISP & entrepreneurial development,
so I could probably help structurally out with networking-related issues or
corporate governace. Artistically my interests run into integrating traditional
media with electronic systems for greater participation, which I suppose I
could speak about to a degree. I’m not sure how this would work into
‘workshop’, however. Q17 Not unless the art comes up in
quality. Q17 Nothing specific, I’d just like
to help you achieve your goals.

I’m dynamite with all aspects of computers.

Q17 One way that I would like to get
more involved is by maybe becoming a sort of liason person between Seattle
and Vancouver. I know that we have our regionals in both areas, and I think
that because I travel to Seattle quite often, I may be able to help them out
a bit more. I am great at taking notes, calling people, and I love to help
organize any event. There is never any job too small for me to do. Q17 Org Infrastructure ,
Possibly a work shop Etc Q17 Organizational infrastructure
and oversight. Meeting facilitation,
board development, project management, conflict resolution Q17 Organizational infrastrucure of
events, set and installation building (light carpentry), legal issues (I’m a
lawyer) Q17 organizational
skills/infrastructure contribution Q17 Organize a workshop:

Massage/healing related

Organize BM info meeatings in my home town (Fernie BC)

Q17 Organize and teach a workshop on
living sustainably. Reducing petroleum dependence. Local food systems.
Geo-political trends and how we can get
ready for what is coming. Q17 organize and teach video/VJ
workshop, organize and stage regional events, act as a liason w/other groups. Q17 Organize anything! Go to
workshops, spend money at Burner coffee shop, etc. where I know the proceeds
will be used by the community Q17 Organize events and art
projects, lead task forces, plan the organization. Q17 Organize
workshops, regional events, help with the organization’s infrastructure, Q17 Organize workshops.
School arts events.
Build and run a goddamned coffee shop

attend. Q17 Organize, teach, participate;
all of the above. Web and infrastructure support, along with communications. Q17 Organizing Events, Organizing
workshops, facilitating a workshop. Q17 Participate in the organization
and execution of regional events. Q17 Producing events, workshops Q17 Provide music and visuals Q17 Rangering, coordinating people,
filling-in wherever needed. whatever
I’m doing now and whatever is needed in the future. Q17 sewing costumes Q17 Space Management for artists. Q17 stone

survial first aid instructor (years of dirt bike and farm expiriance of
packing out accident victims.. not the usual first aid you get in the class
rooms but rather the what do you do when you have to make do..

(Would need access to shop and tools).

Teach a workshop - Build a Teepee.

Teach a workshop - Tie you shoes, tye dye your shirt.

Q17 teach at a workshop, organize,
provide rehearsal or art space

Q17 teach survival workshops for
newbies…bare necessities, fun stuff, super dooper preparedness so they can
get the most out of it and not get left in the “dust”. Body
awareness, safety…food planning…and educating newbies on issues such as
moop and porta potty training BEFORE they get there…so on… Q17 teach, organize social events Q17 teaching workshops, running a
coffee shop, constructing the physical space, event organization Q17 Things I can do:
- take meeting minutes
- write white papers, technical documents, web content,or commercial
copy
- organize and run a kitchen with support staff and clean up team
- deal with food permits, restaurant licensing,
health inspectors, and suppliers
Just ask I can almost anything except organize parties. :) I’m not a social
butterfly and don’t have the connections. Q17 volunteer at large regional
events Q17 Work with Collabrative media
groups, via web, e-mail, photograhphy and videography for events/workshops

Q17 Would like to help organize
workshops. Q17 Writing,
editing, marketing and PR. I have extensive experience creating newsletters,
from the writing and editing, through layout and print production. Have
knowledge and connections with local printers. Can write copy for website or
any other vehicle of communication. Would like to be involved on any level
from part time employment, to volunteer capacity. As to workshops- I have
experience doing college-level creative writing workshops, and could hold
some sort of music workshop- folk-blues fingerpicking on the guitar or some
such. I would potentially be interested in taking on some level of
responsability depending on the nature of the project. Certainly in
PR/marketing/editorial capacity. Q17 Yes,
organize workshops, through hand’s on collaboration, and sharing inspiration. Q17 Q18 18) If you have any other
questions, comments, or concerns, please provide them in the space provided
below: Q18 writing anything frustrates me, like now, i’m getting really
upset. Q18 1. Does this LLC have shares of
stock? Can I acquire some?

2. Who comprises the board and will there be stockholder meetings?

Q18 A
friend and I would like to participate in a larger art project for BM.
We are looking for a list of projects and
needed volunteers. Q18 Burn! 1 maybe 2 Q18 Burning Man parties tend to
insulate our community from others Q18 EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
PRACTICES

good questionnaire, but some of the questions (insurance ones and live/work
space) are double-barrelled and will affect the validity and reliability of
your results…contact me for more info.

Q18 everyone should be involved!

Q18 Figure out what you can do well,
then do it. Don’t try to be all
things to all people. Focus your
scope. Oh — if you don’t do it in a way that’s fun, it won’t be sustainable.
Have fun with what you choose to do. Q18 find a way to de throne bush
please that woud help get the ball rollin Q18 For crying out loud, this list
is exhaustive and overly ambitious.
This makes it sound like you’re trying to start a massive foundation
or beaurocratic government or business, particularly in question 14.
How about keeping it simple, starting with
attainable goals, and making a point to start out by doing only what needs to
be done and can reasonably be done.
MANY of the things listed here are way beyond what I view as the scope
of the LLC. Q18 Good luck! The survey was fun! Q18 Great job in getting this put
together! I wish I had more energy to
participate at the moment, but I’ll be back in the future. Q18 Great job so far.
Don’t get so bogged down in consensus that
this process takes forever. Build it,
then let others join/participate/change/tinker/vilify/etc. Q18 Have you really timed this
survey? I’m either really slow, or 10
minutes is a bit of an understatement. Q18 I am hoping that the overall
tone of the PNWLLCC stays positive and caring, even when the inevitable
happens, and someone gets crazy. Q18 I have
been out Sick , but do intend to be more involved. Q18 I hope my input has been
helpful. You guys have so many great ideas that it’s a bit difficult to
decide which ones are the best or the most important. Q18 I hope we don’t get mired in
process or bureaucracy. Q18 I
like toast.

Have you ever really thought about what goes into each slice of toast?
Seeds of wheat get their nourishment from
the soil and the sun and provide us with grains.
Then we have to harvest the grains and mill them.
But it doesn’t stop there!
Then you add other ingredients, mix, and
knead the heck out of the dough.

Only after baking and slicing do we have basic bread, which we can then
toast.

I love toast.

Q18 I love you and the work that
you’re doing. Truly..in that burner way. =o)

Q18 I really want to be more
involved in this community - but with work and school I don’t get to my
e-mail as much as I’d like to — how else can I keep in touch with peeps?
Also I have a decent sized friend base who don’t have computer acess at all.
— help us! We’re from the dark
ages!!! ack. Q18 I
really wish I was around so I could be a part of this process in person and
not a voice thousands of miles away. Large scale activities give people the
opportunity to colorable and share their works and are great venues for
networking to build stronger community. Q18 I think getting involved in the
larger community and educating each other at the same time is a great goal. I
don’t believe the PNWLLC should be a fundraising mechanism, except to cover
self-sustaining costs. That just
results in another bureacracy with people arguing about how they thing the
money should be spent. Let’s take the
focus OFF money and let people come together with their resources and
creativity. That’s part of what I love most about the community: we support
each other without just throwing money at problems. I think if you start
trying to become a funding organization, it will actually be detrimental to
the community we already have. Q18 I think it’s a great idea to
survey burners and potential burners to find out their ideas and responses. Q18 i think that the PNWLLC is a
great thing to happen to the pacific northwest. it is a sign of growth of the
community, and it brings people together.

Q18 I think women are largely
disrespected at local events, and measures need to be taken.
Many of my female burner friends do not
participate locally for the same reasons…lame art, lack of respect…in
local events. It’s a shame since I
loved the community on the playa. Q18 If I’m going to spend my time on
something, I want it to be new and I want it to be useful. One of my personal
goals is to make a series of digital films that show people how to take their
lives back - their emotional lives, financial lives, sex lives, work lives,
food lives; EVERYTHING! Most people do not have good models of how to do this
and are shut off from this information by the mainstream press. I am a
revolutionary. I want to change things. I do not want to be stuck in 3 hour
droning meetings with stoned committee people who ramble and get nowhere. I
want clearly stated missions and goals. I am not interested in being in a
glorified social committee. I want real change! Q18 I’m a once & future burner,
expect to be back some time but not soon, so weigh my opinions accordingly. Q18 i’m an old fart. pacifist, semi
vegetarian, existential buddhist, anarchist, hack poet, blah blah.
the community gives me life. my only
concern is that organization gets in the way of living.
my favorite quote is “dance like
nobody’s watching”. you want to
walk down the main street of some small town in tutu’s carrying lawn rakes,
i’m there (if i’m not meditating on an orange).

Q18 I’m as dyed-in-the-wool liberal
as anyone here, but I still have to say: beware of the nanny state. As good
as the benefits can be, there are many pitfalls to watch out for. It can be
done (by someone other than me) but they have to really know what they’re
doing. Q18 I’m concerned that I want to do
a lot more than the I have time available will allow. Q18 I’m
not so into the Burning Man spirit of open love and affection, I don’t feel
that should be a focus of this organization. It maybe a byproduct, and well
represented through a community by the nature of some of the participants. I
don’t want my work or the efforts of my group to be lumped in with open love,
as that aspect of the community has no relationship to the art that I as an
individual or my group produces.

I am in support of our sex positive community, but
that aspect of our community is creating a stereo type I’d prefer not to be
associated with. As a result I rarely attend functions, mixers or parties.

Q18 Is this to be a
non-profit?
bradley@deepfriar.com Q18 It’s
cool to see something like this come together.
I really like your list of potential goals but your list of
activites is very event/party centric.
My opinion is that events are fun, but if you really want to instill
some kind of social change you need to create a sustainable alternative
community by creating jobs that support both the members and the values of
the community. Q18 It’s really spiffy that only
numeric input is recognized in question 7’s textbox but I can’t delete a type
and that’s just bad.
furthermore, “PNWLLC” is really fucking akward and sounds like it
was formed by committee to offend the least number of grumpy,
seratonin-deficient burners as possible.
Get creative or get out! Q18 JOY! Q18 Just really glad that you are
doing this! I feel a little less isolated all of a sudden! Q18 kick all the cool kids out

Q18 Most of my answers are based
upon what I think the LLC should be doing in the near term… in the first
year or two of its life. My concern has always been that it will attempt to
do too much too soon, and then most likely collapse under its own weight. Q18 My concern is that burningman is
getting to big. A special part is
that it is not for everyone, but the driving part is that you want everyone
to experience it. This LLC is spawned
from the thought of this event, but it is not the event.
I believe that it is a good idea, but
further clouds simply the experience.
Why does this LLC have to be so closely related to thrive? Business
& BM. Q18 old age home for over the hill
burners??? gggggg
who knows we may get old some day! Q18 Please don’t count me out - I’ve
just been extrememle busy with school and work recently - finals are this
week. Q18 see above Q18 Seems like the LLC could be a
really valuable resource!! Q18 Shelly Rocks. Q18 thanks for all the effort you’re
putting into making this community stronger! Q18 Thanks for doing this! Q18 Thanks for putting this amazing
survey together. I really look forward to seeing what other burners say! Can
we do one for defining constituency? Q18 Thanks Shelly! Q18 The idea of an online directory
is interesting and compelling, but I’m concerned that it would become yet
another not-very-used community space that would quickly become neglected
& outdated. Lots of burners, local
and otherwise, are members of tribe.net, which is a very burner-friendly,
very popular community website. It
might be a lot more effective to create something within the tribe.net space,
since many of us are already there, rather than expect people to sign up for
a new online community that will quickly become neglected.
A couple burner-related tribe factoids:
- The CEO is a burner

yes”> - Tribe.net’s usage dropped by 12% during
the week of the 2004 burn.

Q18 This undertaking needs to as
quickly as possible expand its constituency base. Get through the Mission
statement, draw up the Operating Agreement and Legal Structure, and then pull
people in and allow them to participate. If you keep people out too long you
will end up having to do all the work yourselves, and so this will never get
done. PNWLLC is a recipe for stone soup. Everyone has an ingredient. Get the
water boiling! Q18 this year round burningman craze
is getting old. don’t people have anything better to do with their time?

Q18 Try to take on only those
projects which leave you in the middle, without actual obligations. Handle
the facilitation of projects, rather the projects themselves. Be the conduit
through which we funnel money, for example, rather than the group which actually
handles the forest.
