Critical Massive Call for Proposals
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Ignition Northwest, Critical Massive 2007
Seattle, WA
Proposal Deadline: April 1st, 2007
Ignition NW is a non-profit corporation that fosters radical self-expression, participatory art, and sustainable community through regional (Burning Man) events, information sharing and education, community space, and so forth for the Burner-based community and friends in the Pacific Northwest. Each year we sponsor a multi-day (Burning Man) regional event, Critical Massive, as a venue for community members and friends to meet and develop collaborative relationships through the organization and experience of music, art, interactive projects, and workshops. Critical Massive strives to be the Northwest’s premier pre-playa experience and therefore welcomes the idea of providing grants for art centered in the Northwest. This grant process is open to on and off playa art, the only restriction is a showing of all or part of the project at Critical Massive. Please note the grant is intended to be assistive, covering materials and costs of installation, not artists’ time. Whether or not you need assistance funding, we encourage you to bring your to bring it to Critical Massive! The success of this community-based event depends on the active contribution of all its participants.
PROJECT GOALS:
The goals of this project are to foster community through the construction of participatory art at Critical Massive, art that embodies the Burning Man spirit of both radical self-expression and cross-disciplinary collaboration. By said “art” we broadly include performance, music, fire dancing, art cars, interactive sculptures, theme camp projects, and other collaborative and/or participatory installations. ELIGIBILITY
Artists and art groups intending to install art at Critical Massive are eligible to submit a proposal for this project. Members of the art grant committee are not elegible.
CRITERIA
The criteria on which the proposals will be judged include artistic quality; appropriateness for the site; successfully addressing the goals of Ignition Northwest and Critical Massive; successfully addressing public safety and maintenance issues; and ability of the artist to complete the work as described. Priority will also be given to projects that include only transportation or installation costs, and for which artists have clearly already committed some of their own resources and time. Ignition Northwest reserves the right to decline any or all of the submittals. The artist(s) selected may be required to further develop the proposal for approval by the Ignition Northwest, prior to installation. SELECTION PROCESS
