Seattle Memorial temple Grant

Overwhelming community desire to create a Memorial Temple in the wake of the Capital Hill shootings of 3/25/2006, led to a number of individuals donating money in trust to INW with the expectation that it would go towards a resulting art project.

At the Town hall meeting on 3/27/06 all board members had verbal discussions and agreement to support and fund the emerging community art project with about $1,000.

After some online discussion among board members it was agreed to create a matching grant of $1,000 provided that the project met the following criteria:

Include broad details, a proposed location, and a timeline.

  • Be able to be started within the first 24 hours of being chosen

  • Adhere to the principals and mission statement of IgnitionNW

  • Involve broad community participation and have relevance/respect for the family and friends of those lost.

A call for proposals was made to local lists and social networks on 3/26/2006 Deadline for proposals was originally 3/30/2006, but this stretched out when no firm proposals came in. The proposal was accepted, and money granted on 6/26/2006.
