Strategic Planning

Eric Schinfeld of The Shunpike www.theshunpike.org

Why strategic planning?
Will help create a guiding document for next 5 years
Will be helpful when filing for 501c3 status

Held Strategic Planning focus groups-
Why are we doing this?
Who are we serving?
What does the community want?
How do you define this community?
What is a burner?

Energy is this community’s real resource- creating structure to strategically and effectively use our collected energy

Summary of feedback from focus groups-
Diverse community, self selected, show up, participate, get involved

What does the community see as Ignition’s goal?
Wanting to serve and foster this community.
Grow and develop strong ties in the community.

Programming or How Goals Are Accomplished?
Events- desire for diverse events beyond SeaCompression and Critical Massive; smaller, art focused events; not all events focused on fundraising

Advocacy- represented and legitimized to local mainstream community; city wide planning process; working with other arts/community organizations, outreach

External focus/Public Service- Burners w/o Borders; community service

Technical Services- Space, storing and exhibition of large scale art; funding to help
build local community- not playa focused; skill building- artistic, accounting, logistical; develop consulting aspect

The strategic planning document that will be created in the next few weeks will steer and guide the board in the next few years
Document is meant to be a continuing dialog
Board will seek some community input for the feedback, editing, rewriting process
