SeaCompression

SeaCompression is an urban arts festival inspired by Nevada's annual Burning Man festival. ("SeaCompression" is a play on "Decompression", which is San Francisco's annual post-Burning Man volunteer party.) SeaCompression was founded in 2002 to celebrate interactive arts in Seattle. Since being taken under the Ignition Northwest umbrella, it has become our chief annual fundraiser.

SeaCompression typically features a wide range of art that includes large scale kinetic sculptures, art cars and buses, fire art, and sound & light shows. Past years have featured such random oddities as a 30' neon rainbow, a remote controlled blimp, a 12' tall bundle of grapes, and a hydrodynamic science project that mixes fire and water in a 6' whirlpool.

SeaCompression also includes extravagant live performances. Attendees might get to see daring aerialists, people spinning fire, interpretive dancers, contortionists, live musicians, and even an eclectic marching band. SeaCompression also features a dance floor with electronic music provided by an impressive lineup of Seattle's best known DJs.

SeaCompression has been running annually since 2002. It takes place in Autumn, typically in late October or early November. It has been held at the Fremont UnConventional Center, the Ballard Segway, Consolidated Works, and Sand Point Magnusson Park. Ignition Northwest and its event producers have worked closely with City of Seattle Fire Marshals, Parks Department staff, and private property owners, and a professional security team to ensure that our events are managed responsibly with minimal impact on the surrounding community.

SeaCompression is sponsored by Ignition Northwest and is produced by an all-volunteer staff. Proceeds help fund large scale public art projects, an annual scholarship to Pratt art school and other educational projects throughout the year.
